Jalapeno margarita

A jalapeno margarita is a perfect recipe for any time of year. Margaritas might be the ideal cocktail for just about every occasion. The classic margarita only has three ingredients, tequila, triple sec, and lime juice. Yes, that’s it, no added sugar or sour mix or jalapeno. If you prefer the classic version, try this recipe.

This recipe is based on the classic version and is simple to make. We add simple syrup or agave nectar and a few slices of jalapeño for spice.

With the spice from the jalapeno, tartness from the lime, and the smoothness from a good quality Anejo tequila, this jalapeño margarita recipe is perfect for sipping any day of the week. If you are in the market for Anejo tequila, here are some great ones.

Before we get into the recipe, let’s go over the varieties of tequila.

What Kind of Tequila Are You?

There are five kinds of tequila: Blanco (white), Joven (gold), Reposado (rested), Anejo (aged), and extra Anejo (ultra aged). To really enjoy tequila, make sure you pick one made with 100 percent agave. Stay clear of the mixed (mixto) versions that only require 51 percent agave because they are not 100 percent agave, these varieties lack tequilas signature flavor.

Unless you are going for a college-style tequila experience, try to stay away from Blanco (white) and Joven (gold) tequila which can be harsh. In other words, go for the good stuff.
