Gin is typically loved or hated—kind of like Cilantro. We Love gin here at Eat195. Whether you enjoy Juniper heavy gins commonly found in the London dry style or more botanical gins like Hendricks, the gin Fizz is a cocktail made for lazy summer days. The classic gin fizz includes gin, lemon, superfine sugar, egg whites, and club soda. This rendition cuts out the egg whites, superfine sugar, and lemon and adds blackberries and lime to complement the herbaceous gin.
On the other hand, if you don’t love Gin, ask yourself a few questions. Have you ever had a gin fizz? When was the last time you had Gin? Was it at that college basement party? If the answer is yes, it’s time for a re-do? What don’t you like about Gin? Is it the juniper that was too much for you? If so, try a more botanical gin such as Hendricks or a more mellow gin such as Citadelle. With so many gins to choose from, sample a few to see if they can change your mind. If Gin is off the table, try replacing it with vodka.
When you need a light, refreshing cocktail, then look no further than a gin fizz. Try replacing the blackberries with a berry of your choice, and let us know what you think.
